Fifth Grade

As Summer,2008 becomes a memory and the 2008-2009 school year begins to
make it’s mark, students in room 17 are busy transitioning as well. Opportunities abound! We’re looking forward to Student Government  class representative elections right around the corner.  Many of the 5th graders have completed the training for altar servers and will begin serving as candle bearers at the Friday school masses.  The children’s choir is once again open to all interested 5th graders.  Fall sports teams are forming now as well. There are lots of opportunities to get involved.

Inside the classroom routines are being established and the flow and rhythm of things are falling into place.  Something new this year in room 17 are literature circles.  Students will assume the roles of illustrators, word wizards, connectors, literary luminaries, reporters and discussion directors as we work our way through many Newberry Award winning books this year. We are currently working on Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh by Robert C. O’Brian. Leadership roles for everyone this year. We are on our way in room 17!!
